Reminder to recycle during Christmas period

WARWICKSHIRE Waste Partnership is urging people across the county to remember to recycle during and after the Christmas period.

Figures show that during this time of year, around 30 per cent more waste than usual is generated - and most of it can be recycled.

The Royal Mail delivers around 150 million cards and packets each day during the pre-Christmas period and it is estimated that if not recycled, up to one billion Christmas cards could end up in bins across the UK.

The country uses an estimated 750 million extra bottles and glass containers and 500 million drinks cans at this time of year – and about 20 to 30 per cent more glass and cans are collected each year over the Christmas period.

Anyone who lives in Warwick district who does not have a recycling box or bin can request one by calling 410410 and those who live in Stratford district can call 01789 267575 and to find out more about recycling collections, go online.
