A £1 million restoration of the Pump Room Gardens in Leamington looks set to go ahead following a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Organisers behind the plans - Warwick District Council (WDC), Warwickshire County Council and the Friends of the Pump Room Gardens - were granted £995,656 by the HLF this week.

Formal planning permission was granted by WDC last year for the bandstand to be taken down and restored as part of the plans, which would see the layout of the garden changed.

Talking before the bid was made to the HLF, Archie Pitts, chairman of the Friends of the Pump Room Gardens, said: “The overall aim is to bring the gardens back to their heyday, which was in the early 1900s.”
