Hammerson today (Wednesday) announced that DFS, Oak Furniture Land, Sofology and Tapi are the first retailers signed up to open at the phase-two development of the shopping park.

The homeware brands will occupy four of the nine units on the former Tribune Trading Estate site and are scheduled to open before Christmas 2017. Hammerson said other names will be announced shortly.

The £20 million shopping park extension will create around 120 new jobs in the area and follows the
£35 million phase one of Elliott’s Field, which opened in 2015.

Phase one featured high street names while the extension will be solely homeware.

In addition to the new stores, there will also be a new café/restaurant and approximately 500 customer car parking spaces. Thomas Cochrane, development manager at Hammerson, said: “We are pleased to announce the first batch of new stores for the extended Elliott’s Field.

“These popular and successful brands will enable Rugby residents to make some of their big purchases for the home without travelling so far.

“We know that people who live in Rugby currently make most of their homeware purchases outside the borough. At Elliott’s Field, we are helping drive growth in Rugby by addressing this gap in the market and responding to customer demand for greater choice.

“We are seeing significant interest in the remaining units at Elliott’s Field, and this is a reflection of the strength of the first phase and the growth of Rugby as an area.”

The park features a number of sustainability measures to target the highest BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating, and will be carbon-neutral, with the regulated energy usage of occupiers entirely offset by sustainable initiatives
