Bearded men decorated with fresh flowers have been helping raise money for the Royal British Legion.

‘Rugbeards’ Brendan and Damian (pictured with a local Cadet) helped sell poppies in the town centre and at Elliott’s Field shopping park off Leicester Road on Saturday.

Simon Ainley, owner of Garden Gate Flowers in Regent Street, Matt Robinson, owner of Mr Robinsons Barbershop in Church Street, and photographer Jamie Gray got together to create the Rugbeards initiative.

The unusual photos have been on show at Garden Gate in order to raise money for homeless charity Hope 4 and the Matt Hampson Foundation which helps people seriously injured through sport.

The initiative has raised more than £650 so far.
