THE finest pooches in Rugby are preparing to take part in the biggest dog show of its kind in the world.

Several dogs from the Rugby Dog Training Club have been selected to take part in the Crufts 2012 Dog Show at the NEC this weekend.

One of the contenders is proud owner Mary Ray who will be travelling to the famous show with two of her dogs - Foxy and Levi.

As well as entering Foxy and Levi into the Crufts championship obedience competition, Mary will also be competing in the world cup obedience competition with Levi.

Mary and Levi will also be performing a heelwork to music routine shortly before the best in show is judged in the main ring on Sunday night.

Several other dogs from the club have also made it through to Crufts after a series of qualifying rounds, including Julie Taylor with her dog Jim who will be entering the championship obedience competition alongside Mary.

Daphne Townsend, president of the Rugby Dog Training Club, said: “I think we’ve got a few more entering than we normally would. It’s a really big thing to have Julie and Mary entering the obedience.

“We’ve got all our fingers and paws crossed that we will do well. It just depends on the dogs on the day.”
