The free town centre parking scheme launched in July for the Newbold Road and John Barford car parks is to continue until the end of January to encourage shoppers into Rugby.
To take up the offer, drivers need to obtain a pass and validate it by texting their vehicle registration to a designated number. They then write the date, time and car registration number on the pass and display it in their window.
Passes can be obtained from local businesses displaying a window poster. Passes are valid after 10am and will permit customers up to four hours free car parking. They can be used only once and will have an expiry date.
The John Barford and Newbold Road car parks have capacities of 570 and 220 respectively. The John Barford car park opens from 8am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, while the Newbold Road car park is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Aftab Gaffar, managing director of town centre management company Rugby First, said: “I am delighted that the scheme has been extended and despite initial concerns from customers that it was too complicated on using it they have found it quite simple.
“I would encourage people to take advantage of the free car parking this Christmas and to thank them in advance for continuing to support their town centre and shopping local.”
Cllr Heather Timms, the borough councillor responsible for the economy, development and culture, said: “By extending the free parking scheme into the new year, we hope to deliver a real boost to businesses in the town centre during the festive season. Residents who choose to shop local this Christmas can save time, save fuel and save money by taking advantage of the free parking offer, while supporting our town centre stores.”
