A Rugby man is to stand trial accused of setting fire to wheelie bins in the town in three alleged arson attacks on the same night.

David Lister, 55, of Royal Court, Rounds Gardens, Rugby, pleaded not guilty at Warwick Crown Court to two charges of arson and one of attempted arson.

All the alleged attacks are said to have taken place on July 24.

The most serious charge accuses Lister of setting fire to a wheelie bin and a wooden fence, being reckless whether the lives of occupants of a flat in Manor Road, Rugby, would be endangered.

He is also accused of damaging a wheelie bin in Regent Place by setting fire to it and attempting to set light to another bin in Regents Place. The case was adjourned for trial. Lister was remanded in custody by Judge Marten Coates.
