Following another multi-vehicle accident near the notorious Catthorpe Interchange today, Rugby MP Mark Pawsey is calling for action.
Mr Pawsey, MP for Rugby, has written to Transport Minister Mike Penning to request urgent action to improve the junction.
He said: “On Friday I met with local business representatives at a meeting organised with the Federation of Small Businesses to consider transport issues affecting the town.
“Everyone present agreed on the need for urgency of improvements at the Catthorpe junction. The current position is that a public enquiry was held and concluded on the March 15, but at this stage there are no indications of the outcome, or when work may be started.”
Mr Pawsey has been campaigning for improvements at the accident blackspot for the last few years.
He continued: “The fact there has been a further major accident today, causing traffic to divert through the town and causing extended journey times for many businesses in my constituency means that improvements should be carried out sooner rather than later.
“I have today written to the Transport Minister asking for him to speed up the outcome of the enquiry, the final proposals for the scheme and getting construction work under way.
“Problems at the Catthorpe junction have existed for far too long. In addition to delays, there has been significant loss of life and a remedy is urgently needed.”
