Rugby residents are being challenged to test their wits at a charity quiz night and help a mum and her son raise money to find a cure for muscular dystrophy.
Hayley Lloyd, of May Lane, Bilton, has been raising money for Muscular Dystrophy Campaign since her son Tommy was diagnosed with a very rare form of the muscle-wasting disease earlier this year. There is no treatment or cure available for it.
Hayley made headlines after she managed to land a date with Gogglebox and Celebrity Big Brother star George Gilbey and persuade him to do a skydive with her, raising £6,000 in the process.
Now she hopes Rugby trivia whizzes will help her reach her target of £10,000 by putting their knowledge to the test at a ‘Question of Support’ quiz night on Friday November 7.
Hayley said: “Finding out your child has an untreatable and incurable disease is one of the worst things to happen to any parent.
“You always think these types of things happen to everyone else, but it hasn’t – it’s happened to me and my eight-year-old son Tommy.
“I’m lucky Tommy is still active at the moment. He can still run and walk, but this won’t last as his muscles weaken over time.
“I’m hopeful we have a few more years before he’s wheelchair bound.
“I’ve spent months in total despair, feeling powerless to help my little boy, but I decided I could do something, I could help raise vital research funds for a cure.
“So if you fancy a great night out with a quiz and food for a tenner and all for a good cause, then please do come.”
Tickets for the event, which kicks off at 7.30pm (doors open at 7pm) at The Sports Connexion, Leamington Road, Ryton on Dunsmore, cost £10 per person, which includes a pizza supper.
Question rounds will include pot luck and a picture round, and a raffle draw will also take place during the evening.
Prizes include a signed Ian Wright Arsenal football shirt, £20 Tesco voucher, signed Arsenal team photo, signed David Walliams book, restaurant vouchers, family ticket for bowling, karting voucher and rugby match tickets for Twickenham.
There will be a bar available on the evening.
Tickets are available by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling Hayley on 07795505155.
