A Rugby optician helped to dispel some of the myths and fears surrounding contact lenses at a special event.
Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care, in Regent Street, gave customers the chance to touch and feel the lenses, have any concerns addressed by a team of experts and participate in a free trial and fitting assessment on April 20.
Branch manager Sarah Cave said: “It was very well received as we were able to show people there was nothing to fear and explain how contact lenses can give them more options.”
Customers who attended included Mike O’Connor, 68, from Dunchurch, who has been considering contact lenses for years to fit in with his active lifestyle.
An avid climber, badminton and scuba diving enthusiast, Mike was keen to make the switch but has always been nervous about the prospect of contact lenses.
He said: “What a great idea for people like me who are anxious about using contact lenses. I found the event really helpful and the staff very encouraging and supportive. I’ve got the confidence to sign up to the trial and give contact lenses a go.”
Sarah said she understood some people did have concerns about contact lenses but this was an opportunity to allay those concerns.
She said: “Thanks to new designs and materials contact lenses are now more comfortable than ever before, providing exceptional vision for those who require correction.
“Summer is the perfect time to give contact lenses a go, whether to aid the playing of sports, or even just to try out a different look with some fashionable sunglasses.”
