Dogs have long been the bane of postmen – but Royal Mail staff in Rugby should now be able to face their canine foes with a little less fear.
The Dogs Trust has been training staff about subtle body language, what to do if a dog is trying to bite and - should the worst happen - what to do if one bites.
Lynn Barberof Dogs Trust said: “Dogs often behave in a negative way through fear rather than outright aggression. The key is to learn how to deal with this behaviour from the start. I am really pleased help the poor postal workers who have to go through unnecessary stress and the dogs who just need to be understood.”
There were 30 dog attacks on postal staff in the CV postcode area in 2012. A Royal Mail spokesman said: “One attack is one too many.”
