Rugby Radio Station history book for air ambulance is on sale

Historian and former radio station manager Malcolm Hancock’s book, The History of Rugby Radio Station, is now available to buy.

All proceeds will go to Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and senior fundraising manager Jo Payne said Malcolm’s generosity was much appreciated.

‘’It costs £1,700 for us to fly every lifesaving mission so this support from the sale of Malcolm’s wonderful book really will be a huge boost for our services,” she said.

The semi autobiographical book recounts Malcolm’s experience of his 38 years working at the site, the ground-breaking first cross Atlantic transmission to Houlton, USA, stories about NASA, Concorde, ‘Messages to Mars’ and the life-saving work of the station during WW2 and The Cold War.

“It meant so much to be able to create a book that not only preserves the history of RadioStation Rugby, but also contributes so importantly to the future of the local community by supporting the life saving work of the air ambulance response team.”

The book is available at bookshop Hunts, Rugby’s Tourist Information Centre and both the Visitors Centre and Tuning Fork eatery in Houlton, which opened on Saturday.
