Rugby’s new Marks and Spencer store will include a bakery and cafe

A new Marks and Spencer store four times the size of the current town centre branch has announced its launch date.

The 42,000 sq ft store will open at Elliott’s Field, off Leicester Road, on November 18.

The town centre branch will close on November 17, and all 45 members of staff will be transferred to the out of town retail park. The new store will create an additional 90 jobs.

An in-store bakery, glass atrium ceiling, and a 9,600 sq ft Food Hall are just some of the store’s highlights.

The groundfloor will comprise of womenswear, horticultural zone with gift cards, food hall selling the ‘ultimate choice’ range, and a beauty department offering brands such as Mac.

Shoppers can also enjoy a 133-seat cafe on the first floor, along with menswear and childrens and baby clothes. The cafe’s glass walls will offer view across the retail park.

Store manager, Charlotte Hayes, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be showcasing the very best of M&S to Rugby.

“We have been inundated with applications for the 90 jobs available and we are delighted to have been able to recruit such a large number of people from the immediate area, and some of our employees are already in training.

“We have been able to take on passionate Rugby residents who want the best for their town and are proud to be part of the new store.”

Charlotte added: “The opening will be an exciting day for everyone at M&S we hope that people can join us on the day to enjoy everything this fantastic store has to offer.”

Some of the stores new employees have been recruited through the M&S ‘Marks & Start’ programme, which is aimed at people who face barriers into work. The initiative gives people a confidence boost while they complete a work experience placement with the retailer.

M&S has also been working with Rugby College to encourage students to sign up for part-time roles.

The new store will offer free parking, and free next-day delivery and collection when ordering from the M&S catalogue in-store or online. The number 4 Stagecoach bus will stop outside the shopping park and pick up from Tesco.

M&S will be open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4.30pm on Sundays.
