RUGBY slimmers have been celebrating shedding the pounds in time for the new year.

The final weigh-in and awards ceremony for the most recent Arriba! Community Weight Loss Challenge on December 19 at Paddox Methodist Church in Hillmorton revealed that the group of slimmers had lost a whopping 53 stone between them.

Simon Flavell won the challenge with a 15.77 per cent weight loss, winning £200 cash. Four other runners up from the group took home £100 each in cash. The inchloss prize was awarded to Dave Kimberley.

Club leader Helen Childs praised the group for their active participation and for commitment to long term health and well being.

Another two Arriba! Community Weight Loss Challenge groups run on Tuesday evening at Rugby Methodist Church and Wednesday evening at Dunchurch Sportsfield and Village have just completed their first 12-week challenges. The Rugby Methodist Church class lost 15 stone, while the Dunchurch group shed more than 20 stone.

Meanwhile Liz Farrell, who manages Slimming World groups in Rugby, met comic Jason Manford at an annual awards ceremony to celebrate successful slimmers.

Jason, who starred on TV panel game 8 Out of 10 Cats, said he was thrilled to meet so many inspirational people like Liz who run slimming groups.
