RUGBY Theatre’s hotly anticipated production of Tim Firth’s Calendar Girls opens this Saturday (September 22) at 7.30pm.
Based on the true story of eleven Women’s Institute members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund, Calendar Girls is regarded as one of the most charming, eccentric and emotive plays of recent times.
Its popularity soared after Julie Walters and Helen Mirren starred as the protagonists in the film of the same name.
Elizabeth Young, chairman of the trustees at Rugby Theatre and Calender Girls cast member, said: “We are, for obvious reasons, a little nervous of performing this wonderful touching play, but tickets are selling out fast and we are really looking forward to the response of our audiences.”
To date the original calendar girls have raised over £2m for Leukaemia Research, the UK’s leading blood cancer charity.
Calender Girls runs from September 22 to September to Saturday September 29. Tickets are available by calling the box office on (01788) 541234.
