THE person hit by a train in Rugby yesterday morning was a “local 28-year-old man”, the British Transport Police (BTP) have said.

The incident happened yesterday morning near Newbold at around 9.15am and involved a Virgin train service travelling between London and Bangor. The matter is not being treated as suspicious.

A BTP spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to the railway line at Parkfield Road, Rugby, on Monday, April 2 following a report of a person being struck by a train.

“Officers attended alongside colleagues from Warwickshire Police and the local ambulance service.”

He added: “The body of a man, believed to be aged 28 and from the local area, was discovered at the scene.”
