TWO inspirational women feature in a new and unique guide for women with recurrent ovarian cancer.

Carol Kempton from Rugby met Yvonne Young last year at a focus group organised by Target Ovarian Cancer.

They are featured in Back Here Again, an illustrated guide with photographs in which they share their experiences of recurrent ovarian cancer.

Carol said: “When you’re told your cancer has returned, it’s very different to the first diagnosis, so the Back Here Again guide is really important.

“There is so much to think about practically, as well as the strong emotions.”

She said her main reason for getting involved in the guide was to help others.

“Being involved with the guide meant I could share my experiences,” said Carol.

“This will hopefully help other women with recurrent ovarian cancer in the future.”

She said she enjoyed the photoshoot in Stratford with her friend Yvonne.

Carol said: “Although it was a little embarrassing being photographed, I was glad to be involved as it means the pictures in the guide are all of women who really have gone through what it’s talking about.”

Philippa Carr, Head of Education and Supportive Services at Target Ovarian Cancer, said: “We hope this much needed resource will be of real benefit to women across the UK with recurrent ovarian cancer.

“Many nurses have told us they need to be able to provide thoughtful and compassionate advice to women going through this challenging experience. The wonderful ladies give their thoughts and feelings to help bring spirit, warmth and camaraderie to those reading the guide.”
