Sailor Sophie wins yachting award in British Youth Championships

They beat competition in the Royal Yachting Association British Youth Championships in north Wales.

Competition was tough with over 325 sailors competing in four different classes.

Sophie has been sailing with her partner for the past two years and they have steadily progressed to the top of their class.

She said: “We made a tough call in the 2nd race which allowed us to gain several places, it was a good decision.”

Sophie is now focusing on studying for her A levels and maintaining her fitness. Winning the youth championship means that Sophie will now represent Great Britain at the EUROSAF Youth Sailing European Championships which will be held in Neusiedl am See, Austria this summer. She will also be competing for Great Britain in the European Championships in Norway and then the World Championships in Holland.
