The Christmas tree in Dunchurch had hardly been hoisted into position last week before word leaked out that a special guest was visiting.

The familiar venerable and bearded figure of Father Christmas duly arrived and gave out early presents to a wide variety of village organisations.

After a record-breaking Summer Fete and a number of other fun and money-making events during the past year the Dunchurch Festival Group thanked all their many supporters, helpers and friends. More than £9,000 has been distributed.

Receiving cheques for £1,000 each were the village Scouts, infant school, junior school, Realize Youth Group, Methodist church and St Peter’s church. The Guides, Brownies and Rainbows each received £200, and there was £250 for Holidays at Home and £350 for the Allotment Association. The Festival Group retained some surplus for new equipment.

In addition, during the year, the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance was awarded £386, the Rugby Cancer Ball £350, ICAN Children’s Charity £250 plus smaller amounts to Dunchurch Voices and Dunchurch Band. Visit for more information about village matters.
