A Midsummer Night’s Dream - Chapterhouse Theatre Company - Holiday Inn, Crick - By Lucie Green

The romantic grounds of Crick’s Holiday Inn provided the perfect setting for an open air performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Chapterhouse Theatre Company.

It captured the hearts and imagination of the audience, who snuggled up under blankets with glass of wine in hand, to enjoy Shakespeare’s best-loved romantic comedy on Saturday night.

The talented cast took us on a thrilling journey to the most magical of forests and meet star-crossed lovers, playful fairies and raucous travelling players.

It portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and Hippolyta.

These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors, who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set.

Categorised as a comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of Shakespeare’s most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.

Chapterhouse brought with them a friendly family atmosphere which encouraged the few children to get involved, helping to bring Shakespeare to life for many of them.

Despite the chill and the odd bit of drizzle, everyone had a wonderful time.
