The six – Ashlawn, Avon Valley, Bilton School, Harris, Lawrence Sheriff and Rugby High – received a share of £112,000 given out to schools and colleges across the county.

They are the latest to benefit from Warwickshire County Council’s Skills for Employment programme after they responded to an invitation to apply in the spring.

Since February 2015, grants of up to £3,000 have been awarded to 34 schools and four colleges across the county to stimulate economic growth via schools, skills and employment.

Activities taking place as a result of the funding, include events to raise confidence and aspirations; new software to help students research and plan for their futures; interview skills – and high quality work experience.

It has allowed Avon Valley to appoint a member of staff to work more closely with students and give greater opportunity for one-to-one support and guidance.

This latest boost follows on from a major grant received last year.

The school will continue to work with Kokoro, a not-for-profit, community-interest organisation, which focuses on the development and achievement of young people. Kokoro will run some Personal, Social and Health Education lessons and raise the awareness and aspirations of students.

Head Alison Davies said: “Securing our £3,000 grant from Warwickshire County Council will be a tremendous support for our students.

“We’re proud to be able to provide our students with this crucial personalised support and guidance that will both develop and equip them for life beyond Avon Valley School.”
