Somerville named top pub again

BEER drinkers in Warwickshire have chosen a Leamington pub as their favourite for the second year running.

The Heart of Warwickshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has again named the Somerville Arms in Campion Terrace as its pub of the year.

Cask Marque accredited for the sixth successive year and named in the Good Beer Guide 2012, the Somerville Arms was named after Captain Somerville - a local magistrate whose wife opened the Jephson Temple in Jephson Gardens.

Records for the historical establishment date back to 1868 when the landlord was a Mr Richard Uscombe.

The pub serves seven cask conditioned traditional real ales, mostly from the Adnams and Everards Breweries, as well as ‘real’ cider and perry.

It became part of the Everards estate in 2009 and was refurbished to restore its original Victorian character and charm.

Landlord Paul Blatchly and his wife Kay take pride in promoting and creating a friendly atmosphere at the pub, which hosts regular live music events ranging from bluegrass to jazz.
