The brand new purpose-built library at Tithe Place is expected to be open for business by January 18 at the latest.

This will mean there will be no working library in the town for a couple of weeks after the temporary library in Pendicke Street will close on January 2, although online services will still be available.

Warwickshire County Council runs the library services across the county. Cllr Kam Kaur, responsible for policy on customer services, said: “We are very grateful to the people of Southam for their patience and understanding while this work is going on.

“It will be worth the wait. The new library will be a superb resource.”

Southam county councillor John Appleton said: “The library will offer more computers and a much more versatile space inside for adults and children, reading groups and many others who would like to use it.”

Although the building - which also houses an over-55 housing complex, restaurant and community space - has been ready for some time, additional work has been taking place inside.
