The festive lights were switched on by town mayor Cllr Jason Ward, along with his wife Michelle and Father Christmas himself, who made a special guest appearance at the event.

The evening also included live entertainment by BBC Coventry and Warwickshire radio presenter Bob Brolly MBE, who introduced the choirs, which included St James Primary School and Southam Combined Churches, who sang carols and festive songs.

Each year, Southam’s Christmas lights are funded by a dedicated Christmas lights committee, whose members are still fundraising for this year’s display. It costs £10,000 to buy and erect the lights and organise the display each year and the money is raised through fundraising, street collections, local business sponsorship and grants.

Anyone interested in joining the committee, making a donation, sponsoring the lights or finding out more is asked to contact Terry Grey on 01926 817744 or Carolyn Akeister 01926 815085.
