The 29F Rugby Squadron Air Cadets completed a sponsored tank pull in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
The pull on September 14 was organised by 18-year-old Cadet Sergeant Rhys Pelling in a bid to raise money for a new squadron minibus.
Rhys said: “It went really well! I wasn’t sure if we’d be able to pull the tank when I first arrived and saw the size of it, but it was fine.
“We managed to pull it from one end of the field to the other and back again.”
The tank and grounds -located off the A426 near Draycote Water - were supplied by Andrew Baker, who organises the annual Tank, Trucks and Firepower Show in Rugby.
Rhys explained he was first inspired to organise the sponsored tank pull a couple of years ago. He said: “A zombie movie was being filmed in Rugby on the Firepower site two years back and I got to play a zombie for the day.
“We did some filming with the tanks and it got me thinking it might be good to do something a little out of the ordinary with the cadets.
“We have a minibus but it’s quite old, so we’re trying to raise enough for a new one. So far we’ve raised upwards of £300 from the tank pull and money is still coming in.
“Lots of parents and friends turned out to support us so there was a really good atmosphere on the day.”
Anyone wishing to donate money for the minibus can do so by getting in touch with the squadron on 01788 560953.
