Books were top of the agenda when Bilton High hosted the 10th Warwickshire Secondary Book Award.
Organised by Warwickshire Schools Library Service, the event for Years 7 and 8 saw students from 15 schools heading for Rugby.
They heard three of the shortlisted authors - SF Said, Berlie Doherty and Hilton Pashley - talk about their work and answer students’ questions.
Voting took place the previous week and pupils chose SF Said as the clear winner for his science fiction fantasy Phoenix, illustrated by Dave McKean.
SF Said is pictured with student librarians from Bilton High alongside Berlie Doherty, author of The company of ghosts, and Hilton Pashley, author of Gabriel’s clock.
The other shortlisted books were The Bubblewrap boy by Phil Earle, Lockwood and Co: The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud and One Safe Place by Tania Unsworth.
