People are seeing a lot less of award winning slimmer Fiona O’Connell.

She has lost seven stone together with 69 inches, earning her the national title of the Gymophobics Slimmer of the Year 2013.

Fiona attended a ceremony at Drayton Manor in Tamworth for the ladies’ only gym chain where she learned of her success.

“When I went to the awards I knew I’d been shortlisted,” she said.

“I burst into tears when my name was called out - it’s a good job I had my waterproof mascara on!”

Fiona, of Alfred Street, Rugby, competed with over 100,000 women across the country to pick up the prestigious award. It was extra special for the Slimming World consultant as she wore a size 14 dress to the ceremony.

“I used to be a size 26-28,” said Fiona, who has three children.

“Before I joined Gymophobics I lost two stone to be confident enough to walk through the door. I felt instantly relaxed and everyone made me feel at ease.”

She said her life has changed since losing the weight, adding: “I’m more confident and have so much energy.”

When Fiona O’Connell’s dress size hit 28, she decided to take drastic action. She has lost a staggering nine stone through diet and exercise and hopes to lose another stone. She went to Slimming World classes and attended Gymophobics in St Matthew’s Street, Rugby. “My advice to people thinking about losing weight is to just go for it,” said Fiona. “The staff at Gymophobics are brilliant and they have definitely helped push me.” She runs Slimming World classes at United Reformed Church in Hillmorton on Wednesdays, 5.30pm and 7.30pm.
