Support on offer at new Coffee Corner in Lillington

PARENTS in Lillington can now drop in to the new Coffee Corner which will provide a link to a nearby community centre.

The facility was opened at a former police and caretakers office in the Southorn Court block of flats last month and will serve as an outreach point for Lillington Children’s Centre in Mason Avenue.

Those who do not use the centre can drop in for an informal chat with its staff who are managing the Coffee Corner.

Inderjit Sahota, manager of the centre, said: “We want to build relationships and bring the centre’s services to more people in the community.

“Sometimes it’s not easy for parents to come down to the main building.

“It’s really important we can provide support that is needed for them and for children to have the best outlook possible.”

The Coffee Corner is open on Tuesdays from 9.30am to 11am.

Businesses in an around Lillington donated furniture and other items to set the service up.

Rent on the office is covered until March next year after which time staff, including volunteer parents, will have to raise money to ensure the service is self sustainable.

Ward councillor Sarah Boad, (Lib Dem, Leamington North) said: “The centre was very keen to have a base by the flats.

“There’s a lot of children up there and the centre wants to engage with the whole community.

“A lot of the parents are very enthusiastic about what is going on.”
