A singing teacher is through to bootcamp after a successful performance on talent show X Factor.
Gabriel Cabrera, 32, wowed the judges, including Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez Versini, with his performance on the popular show on Saturday.
The Rugby Theatretrain teacher took to the stage with his husband Chris Kennedy, 28, forming as the duo ‘The Shures’.
He said: “We had been waiting around nine hours before we got on stage to perform and our nerves were shot.”
The pair, who met on a karaoke website, auditioned in front a 3000 strong audience and the four judges in a bid to make it through to bootcamp and the judges’ houses.
They sang Ellie Goulding’s Love Me Like You Do, to an audience that was clearly loving the love in.
“It wasn’t our best vocal performance but the judges liked it,” said Gabriel.
“We would like to thank everyone so much for all the love and support. It’s been crazy. We hope we did you all proud.”
The couple said they want to be positive role models for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.
“If we can help just one person accept who they are, and realise that it’s OK to be gay, then we will have achieved something.”
Simon Cowell was a little reserved when the performance started.
After the audition he said: “Gabriel, you are the better singer in my opinion and I guess your voices do work well together but I think that when he took the lead, the song was much, much better.”
Theatretrain is run by John and Sue Ritter, who said the students are thrilled about the X Factor success.
“Gabz has been teaching with Theatretrain for a year and every Saturday his fabulous voice resounds around the venue at Rugby High School,” said Sue.
“We are so pleased to support Gabriel and Chris as The Shures in X Factor. We are also fortunate also to have Mark Goff (their guitarist) as our dance teacher.”
