A JAPANESE man has admitted raping and killing a teacher from Brandon near Rugby whose body was found buried in a bath four years ago.

Tatsuya Ichihashi, 32, is accused of murdering Lindsay Ann Hawker, 22, from Brandon.

Her body was found in a bath filled with Ichihashi’s home in Tokyo in March 2007.

At the opening of his trial Ichihashi admitted raping Lindsay and causing her death but said he did not intend to kill her.

The defence said Ichihashi had tried to revive his English teacher after accidentally suffocating her in an attempt to stop her from crying out for help.

Ichihashi told the court that he did not intend to kill her, but was responsible for her death. He also said he was sorry for what he did.

After Lindsay’s death Ichihashi went on the run and changed his appearance through plastic surgery.

He was eventually arrested in November 2009.

Lindsay’s parents, Bill and Julia, are attending the trial at Chiba District Court where a verdict is expected before the end of the month.
