Teachers ‘to strike’ in Warwickshire next term

Schools across Warwickshire are likely to suffer from disruption as teacher strikes are planned in the autumn term.

Members of the county’s branch of the National Union of Teachers have voted in favour of a day of industrial action in October as part of a protest against the Government’s plans for changes to their pay, pensions and working conditions.

Branch president Andy Summers said the union had intended to negotiate with the Government, but he said: “Since Education Secretary Michael Gove and his department have not responded intelligently to the reasonable request by our union for proper consultation, we are carrying out our intention to take strike action across the Midlands region next term.”

He said more details would be released closer to the time of the planned action.
