An 18 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape following an incident in Wolston, near Rugby yesterday (Tuesday).

A 14 year old girl was assaulted in Warwick Road at about 5pm by a male who had travelled on the same bus as her from Coventry.

As they walked from the bus stop the male grabbed the girl, pushed her to the ground and tried to remove her clothing.

When she screamed the male ran off towards the village centre, but was subsequently detained by a member of the public who restrained him until police arrived.

The man was taken into custody where he is being questioned by officers.

The teenager was not physically harmed, but was very shaken by the incident.

Det Sgt Bob Jamieson said: “This was a very frightening ordeal for the victim, but I would like to assure members of the public that it was an isolated incident and all necessary steps are being taken to prevent it happening again.

“I would also like to thank those members of the public who came to the assistance of the girl and her mother, and for apprehending the suspect before police arrived.”
