THE Ladies’ Excuse Me dance led to 60 years of wedded bliss for Hillmorton couple Kathleen and Clarry Dodd.

Kathleen, 81, and Clarry, 83, have been together ever since they took to the dance floor in Crewe, Cheshire.

They celebrate their diamond anniversary at their Mellor Road home today (Thursday).

Kathleen said: “I’d gone to the dance on my own and was waiting for another boy when I first saw Clarry.

“I ‘excused’ Clarry and we’ve been inseparable ever since.”

They married at Nantwich Baptist Church in Cheshire where they lived before moving to Gloucestershire and finally Rugby.

The couple have three daughters - Christine, Jayne and Louise - five grandsons, a granddaughter and a great grandson.

Kathleen worked in credit control and Clarry as a CNC technician at Rolls Royce.

“We moved to Rugby because Clarry used to visit relatives here as a child,” said Kathleen.

“We’ve been happy in Hillmorton since we moved here and have had a wonderful life together.”

Clarry added: “We’re very lucky. “Kathleen and I have always pulled together, helped one another and listened to each other.”

Their 60 years together have been spent without a single row. “It’s just love,” said Kathleen.

“Our marriage has been about give and take.

“And we’ve kept the romance - it just comes automatically for us.”

She added: “We’ve never had a row - life’s too short. We have disagreements but just end up laughing.

“Clarry and I have a lovely family.

“They are our life.”

Clarry said: “It doesn’t feel like 60 years.

“We’re very, very happy

The couple will mark their special day with family and friends and celebrate with a party on Sunday.
