The photographs that told the story of 2011

Courier Chief photographer Morris Troughton-Hume chooses his favourite shots from the past year

• The Queen got a taste of life behind bars when she opened the new justice centre in Leamington last March. She and Prince Philip were invited to inspect one of the cells, but due to lack of space our ‘minder’ ushered us on to the next view point before anyone could compose a shot. As I rushed passed the open door I ‘shot from the hip’ and captured this picture.

Note: Morris made it onto satirical BBC2 show Mock the Week in a clip of the press pack gathered outside the cell.

• Runner Mark Bryant was certainly feeling the heat at the end of the annual Regency Run in April. I really admire the dedication and determination of these stalwarts who run their hearts out for charity, and I think this picture really sums up that spirit.

• Cancer Research Uk held their Relay For Life event at Stoneleigh Park in August. The walk was started by four year old cancer survivor Euan Hendry who was so full of life and enthusiastic you’d never have known that he’d ever been ill. What a great little boy!

• This incident during a game involving Leamington 4ths back in July was turning into a farce until slip fielder Billy Hallett raced in to make a fine catch. First of all the ball bounced out of the hands of the wicket keeper, then Billy’s fellow slip fielder acted as though the ball was red hot, then finally Billy came to the rescue. I particularly like the look of determination on his face.

• Minnie Elizabeth Davidson celebrated her 100th birthday in February and seemed delighted with her telegram from The Queen.

• Wow ! - These two young ladies were ecstatic when they compared mobile phone pics of Ricky Whittle after removing his top during a game between Leamington F.C. and ‘Hollyoaks’ back in July. Candid pictures are normally far better than posed shots and this one was a cracker.
