This is the sight which will forever despoil the view from Chesterton Windmill if a 3,000 home new town is built nearby, campaigners say.

The elevated view was taken through one of the windmill’s archways during its Open Weekend last month by e-petition author Peter Reading.

A view of the proposed housing estate - which has been earmarked by Stratford District Council - has been superimposed on it. Protesters say the housing development will ruin the views from the 380-year-old Grade 1 listed ancient monument.

Last week the windmill featured on the BBC TV programme “ A Taste of Britain”, presented by Janet Street-Porter and Brian Turner, who desribed it as unique and an “architectural tour de force”.

The Gaydon/Lighthorne Heath development has been adopted by Stratford District Council as an integral part of its Core Strategy which was approved by the council last month and was due to be submitted to the Government this week (September 29).
