Rugby is returning to normality this morning (Wednesday) after last night’s flash foods left the roads in chaos.

In true British fashion, yesterday (Tuesday) evening saw the heavens open over the town.

While some areas experienced little more than a light shower, others saw heavy downpours that resulted in flash flooding.

Flood water gathered on Dunchurch Road next to the Sainsbury’s roundabout and readers contacted the Advertiser to say the supermarket had been forced to evacuate and close early due to the weather.

Sainsbury’s confirmed this morning that the store was back to normal and open to customers.

Lytham Road, Bilton Road, Addison Road and many others also fell victim to the bad weather and some residents sent in photos of their flooded gardens.

The roads soon dried up and there is little trace of water on the roads this morning - but more heavy rain is forecast for later in the week.
