Town centre consultation delayed

A consultation on the proposed £1m pedestrianisation of North Street and part of Church Street around the clock tower has been delayed until later in the year.

The consultation was set to take place this month, but will now be held in the next two to three months, according to Warwickshire County Council.

The plans, which would be paid for half and half by Rugby Borough and Warwickshire County councils, have proven divisive, with supporters hoping the plans would link the already pedestrianised part of town with Rugby’s Independent Quarter, and critics claiming that £1m could be better spent elsewhere in the town centre.

A date for the consultation is set to be announced in the coming weeks.
