The northbound M1 between Junctions 16 and 17 east of Northampton is closed due to a serious road traffic collision.

Emergency services are in attendance and it is currently estimated the northbound carriageway will remain closed until 10.45am. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journey.

A diversion is in place with drivers advised to exit the M1 northbound at junction 16a and use the A45 westbound, turning right to the A5 at Weedon crossroads. They should continue on the A5 to the A5/A428 Crick roundabout and take the third exit to the A428, continuing on this road to then rejoin the M1 at Junction 18.

Additionally, there have been a number of incidents on the southbound carriageway in the same section. Southbound traffic is currently experiencing delays of up to 30 minutes.

Live traffic information is available on the Highways Agency’s website and mobile app, and drivers can also listen to traffic bulletins on local radio for updates.
