The single-vehicle accident happened at the Frank Whittle roundabout on Rugby Road, Lutterworth, said Leicestershire Police.

The traffic island on the A4303 off Junction 20 of the M1 was closed by police – triggering long tailbacks as diversions were set up - as officers dealt with the crash.

“There are no mention of any injuries and there were no other vehicles involved,” said a police spokeswoman just before 10am this morning.

“Fire and ambulance also attended the incident.

“The lorry has since been turned over and the road should be open soon.”

The lorry driver had managed to climb out of his overturned vehicle's cab by the time firefighters arrived.

Two fire crews from Lutterworth, backed up by the fire brigade’s technical rescue unit from Leicester’s Southern station, attended the incident.

Firefighters immediately went into action to stop fuel pouring out of the wagon’s petrol tank on to the road and make the truck safe.
