Travellers near Warwick have to go

TRAVELLERS who have been living at a site near Warwick for the past few years have been told that they must leave.

The 13 families of Romani Gypsies, who, without planning permission, moved onto greenbelt land off Kites Nest Lane in Beasuale in May 2009, were earlier this year at the centre of a public inquiry looking into whether they have the right to remain.

They had appealed against Warwick District Council’s decision to refuse a retrospective planning application for them to settle at the site.

But, following a lengthy process of considering various witness statements, the Secretary of State for Local Government, Eric Pickles, has decided to uphold the district council’s enforcement notice and to dismiss the Gypsies’ appeal.

A more detailed report will follow in this Friday’s Courier.
