A cordon has been lifted after the discovery of a suspicious item in a car at a scrap yard off Newbold Road in Rugby.
At around 10am this morning, the item was found in the boot of a car that had been on the site for a month waiting to be crushed.
Police and explosives experts attended the site as a precautionary measure and, following an assessment, deemed the item was not dangerous.
Inspector Daf Goddard said: “Further enquiries are being made to establish why the item was in the vehicle but there was no danger to the public at any point during this incident.”
“Staff at the yard rightly called us and we contacted explosives experts as a precautionary measure.
“We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we managed this incident.”
People were evacuated from businesses in the area but no residential properties were affected by the incident.
