MOTORISTS will not be able to use Lawrence Sheriff Street until it reopens on Sunday.
Severn Trent have today (Wednesday) confirmed that the road will remain closed in both directions until Sunday following the collapse of a sewer.
A spokesman told the Advertiser: “Just before Christmas a sewer collapsed. Temporary repairs were made at the time but our engineers are now making permanent repairs. The road will be closed until Sunday. We’re not sure at the moment how far the sewer has collapsed. It might have gone into Sheep Street. If that’s the case then after Sunday we will move into Sheep Street. We’re talking to all the businesses at the moment to keep everyone to up date.”
Lawrence Sheriff Street is closed from the roundabout by the Ken Marriott Leisure Centre up to the corner by Sheep Street.
Businesses in that area are open as usual.
Traffic is being diverted through the town via Church Street and North Street and back onto the gyratory system.
The closure is causing congestion on all major routes around the town.
