Two stars of stage and screen officially opened the 11th Braunston Historic Narrowboat Rally at the weekend.

Husband and wife actors, Timothy West and Prunella Scales, were special guests at the event held at Braunston Marina over the weekend.

Among the attractions were a number of historic narrowboats, real ale beer tent, traders, waterways artist and an open-air songs of praise on the last day.

There was also live music from different bands and groups, Morris dancing and a theatrical presentation designed for the whole family.

Tim Coghlan, managing director of Braunston Marina and one of the organisers of the event, said: “We had a fantastic weekend with record-breaking crowds, amazing weather, and 81 historic narrowboats.

“We are most grateful to Timothy West and Prunella Scales coming from London and donning traditional boatman’s costume to perform the opening on the last surviving steam narrowboat, President.”

The rally attracted interest from people from as far afield as Australia, South Africa and the USA.
