VIDEO: new Dunchurch cafe to star in BBC The Restaurant Man

Two sisters who saw a gap in the market for a cafe in Dunchurch will soon be appearing on a primetime BBC show.

Kate James and Alex Woodcock opened The Nook on the Square in January after months of filming for the BBC Two programme The Restaurant Man.

Kate decided to turn the downstairs of her house, in the middle of the village, into a cafe after seeing a gap in the market.

They were later approached to do the TV show and filming began in September last year.

Alex said: “I’m a nurse and Kate worked in marketing but we saw a business opportunity. There’s nothing in the Dunchurch area like this.

“We wanted to create somewhere people can pop in and have a cup of tea and something to eat.”

The sisters were approached to take part in The Restaurant Man after going to buy some tables from a woman who was also taking part in the show.

Alex said: “It happened by chance really.

“We said we would be happy to do the show but didn’t think we’d hear anything back.

“But then they got back to us and began filming.

“They filming all the renovations and buying stuff, as well as giving us good advice.

“It was a really good experience.”

The Nook on the Square has been busy since it opened selling breakfast, lunches and afternoon treats in the 34-seater cafe.

Alex said: “We’ve been overwhelmed.

“We are loving it. It’s been hard work but it’s really good.

“We’re only six weeks in so it’s a bit of a learning curve.

“We’re concentrating on getting everything right and then we can sit down and look what we plan to do for the future.”

The Nook will feature on The Restaurant Man on Wednesday (March 5) at 8pm on BBC2.
