Warwick bypass closed for emergency repairs

Traffic on the dual carriageway was diverted from the Leek Wootton turn off on Wednesday afternoon when a lorry carrying extremely heavy castings, weighing up to five tonnes, spilled some of its load leaving the road so severely dented that it was deemed unsafe.

It happened just south of the turn off, and emergency roadworks are being carried out to fill in the hole.

Traffic in Warwick has been at a standstill since around 3pm, and with the bypass not expected to reopen for some time it could be a long journey home for workers in the area.

Nobody was believed to have been hurt in the incident.
