Warwick Castle’s flyaway eagle spotted

The ten-year-old white tailed sea eagle, who has a wingspan of six-and-a-half feet, flew away from the castle during one of its birds of prey displays last Thursday.

The attraction’s expert falconers, who have been combing the countryside for six days in search of Stan, are in hot pursuit and hope to have the rare bird back home soon.

The Courier visited both the rugby club in Kenilworth Road and the nearby Old Leamingtonians today but club members said they had not seen Stan or any falconers searching for him.

Tim Harrison-Jones, general manager at Warwick Castle, said: “We’re desperate to get Stan back as he’s never been away for this long before.

“He is an integral part of our daily birds of prey shows and we all miss him. We’ve been overwhelmed by the response from local people during our search and ask them to continue to keep their eyes open. He has a six-and-a-half feet wingspan so looks pretty impressive in the sky but he’s actually quite timid so is most likely to be found perched in a tree or on a post.”

This is not the first time Stan has flown away from the castle.

In July the Courier published a photo of him perched on a pylon in Myton Road.
