Warwickshire air ambulance pilots car service

THE Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance is, along with the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance, introducing the use of emergency cars at nights during weekends.

Both services currently only fly during daylight hours where the majority of emergency incidents occur, yet they carry doctors who are skilled in pre-hospital care and can provide a higher level of medical care than the paramedics can on their own.

Taking this expertise into account, the Air Ambulance Service is piloting the introduction of a night car service by using its emergency response car, which is normally used to supplement its helicopter service during the day.

The use of the car during weekend will also provide an opportunity to train staff.

If the pilot scheme is successful, the Air Ambulance Service will look to extend it.
