RUGBY residents have been thanked by Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service for a relatively incident free bonfire weekend.

The service was busy over the weekend, but more in dealing with false alarms caused by people reporting fires, which turned out to be controlled bonfires in people’s gardens or at premises.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Gary Phillips said: “On the whole it seems people have enjoyed their bonfire celebrations in a safe way this year.

“There have been some extremely successful organised events this year, and we would always encourage people to attend events like this, over holding their own bonfire party.”
