The former town mayor and Lieutenant Colonel in the army - who serves as the Conservative councillor for Warwick West - says he is in complete agreement with his Labour opponent John Holland’s demand for answers on the matter.

Cllr Kinson believes trustees who took over the management of the club have been subjected to considerable bullying over the past five years and he suspects it is because somebody was trying to cover up past mistakes.

The man who was awarded an OBE for his 40 years of military service said: “I was impressed by the quality of letters published in the Courier last week and can assure readers that district councillors representing Warwick West and Warwick South were not misled. We have been trying to resolve this situation by writing to the council and asking questions at council and group meetings.

“On April 15 this year, in an attempt to save £450,000 of taxpayers’ money, my motion that there should be further negotiations was agreed by the district’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

“But the following night this decision was over-ruled by members of the council executive which, to their shame, includes two councillors from Warwick North.

“I have extensive knowledge of how this matter has been mishandled and what has been revealed so far is the tip of the iceberg.

“I call upon our MP Chris White to bring this matter to ministerial attention before more taxpayers’ money is wasted.”
