'We never got the chance to say goodbye to dad' - daughter pays moving tribute to father who took his own life

Lucie Fardon (nee Harris) will never forget the day she got the call to say her father had died.

She said: “When I got to the house and saw all the police I immediately thought someone had broken in and murdered him.”

Peter Harris, 56, took his own life. He was well known in Rugby and used to run dry cleaning shops, as well as being a commercial toiletries supplier.

Lucie said: “There is such a stigma surrounding suicide and I want to help to change that in memory of my dad.”

Lucie works with a charity called Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS), which helps those affected by suicide.

She wanted to turn her loss into something positive and has so far raised more than £2,000 by running Windsor Half Marathon.

Lucie added: “Dad was proud, encouraging, reliable and hard-working.

“I just wish we had all had we’d got the chance to help him and to say goodbye.”
